South Cambridgeshire Council: Embedding Emergenetics to Strengthen Collaboration and Equip Teams for Change

How South Cambridgeshire District Council created a shared language to navigate local government reorganisation and improve cross-team communication.

South Cambridgeshire District Council, a forward-thinking authority with over 700 employees, turned to Emergenetics to strengthen collaboration and prepare its people for local government reorganisation. With many of the internal challenges linked to communication, the People Team developed a practical and innovative way to bridge gaps and build deeper mutual respect across diverse teams.

The People Team pioneered a creative, people-led rollout of Emergenetics - moving away from traditional slide decks, with the introduction of high-energy workshops filled with music and interactive discussions. This approach sparked immediate "lightbulb moments" as staff recognised diverse thinking and behavioural preferences within themselves and their peers. By embedding these concepts into the council's everyday language through "lunch and learns" and bespoke team sessions, they transformed a one-off training event into a sustained cultural shift.

Teams are now better equipped to navigate structural changes, work collaboratively and productively across organisational boundaries.
