Supporting the Board development and performance of British Triathlon over a number of years, providing training, coaching, mentoring, strategy facilitation and governance advice.

Organisation Overview

British Triathlon is responsible for the performance of the Great Britain Elite, Paratriathlon and Age-Group Teams, as well as for British and International events, Anti-Doping and International Representation. It is a Federation made up of the Home Nation's Associations of Triathlon England, Triathlon Scotland and Welsh Triathlon.

Our Approach

First Ascent began working with British Triathlon by helping a newly formed Board accelerate their impact and performance. This involved Board training modules, as well as executive coaching and strategy facilitation.

This work continued as the Board evolved and the ambitions of the organisation to achieve elite and participation success grew. Most recently, this included a Coaching Leadership Programme and the external four-year Board Effectiveness Review, as required under the new sport governance framework.

All board members also have access to free lifetime mentoring for the duration of their career. 

Impact and ROI

Triathlon has emerged from being a niche sport, to be the faster growing participation sport in the UK. The Board has twice won the Governing Body of the Year Award and Olympic medals were won in London 2012 for the first time and improved upon further at Rio 2016.
